News

SEPTEMBER 2011
- Pleased to announce that I was chosen for yet another reading for the Nuestras Voces New Playwrights competition this time for Brooklyn Bets Alexi which will play on November 21, 2011 at Repertorio Espanol. 

- Will be in a reading for the new play The Last of the Lilac Roses as part of the 2011 Nuestras Voces New Playwrights competition on November 15, 2011 at Repertorio Espanol.  


OCTOBER 2011
- The Chalkboard Trilogy opens.  We will run from October 28th, 2011 - November 13th, 2011.


-Cast in Up Theater Company's original production of Chalkboard Trilogy which opens in October 2011.

- Balm in Gilead wins best play at the 2011 New York Innovative Theater Awards. (Outstanding Production of a Play)

- Called in directly by Judy Keller casting for an industrial and booked one of the roles.

- My play from last fall Balm in Gilead is nominated for 7 New York Innovative Theater Awards.


JUNE 2011
- My play from last fall Balm in Gilead (at T. Schreiber Studios) is nominated by Backstage 2011 Reader's Choice Awards for Favorite Stage performance of the year.  We lose to Mark Rylance who went on to win the 2011 Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play for "Jerusalem" We finish as runner ups with guys like Al Pacino "The Merchant of Venice" and Brian Bedford "The Importance of being Earnest"   Truly an honor to be an off off broadway show and be in the same category as those guys.

MARCH 2011 
- Cast in the film 'Alejo Bachata'

To Protect the Poets opens up on March 31st, 2011 and will run Thursday March 31 - Saturday April 9 at the Studio IV Theater at Roy Arias Theatre, 300 W. 43rd St. NYC for seven performances.  Click the flyer below for tickets.




FEBRUARY 2011

Cast in the upcoming production of John Doble's play 'To Protect the Poets' directed by Olivia Harris.  The show will open March 31, 2011 and run Thurs-Sun at the Roy Arias Theatre, 300 W. 43rd St. NYC, for seven performances.   Go the flyer below for more info about the play.

Started freelancing with Jamie Baker Talent Management.

NOVEMBER 2010
- Balm in Gilead has sold out it's entire six week run. (First time in T. Schreiber Studio's history)  We've also garnered very positive reviews and were a NY theatre pick of the week by NYTheatre.com.  We have been extended for an extra two weeks. (Dec.2,2010 - Dec.12,2010)

OCTOBER 2010
- Balm in Gilead opens at T. Schreiber Studios.  You can see Stewart Villilo playing Ernesto Thursday-Saturday at 8pm and Sundays at 3pm from Oct.14,2010 till Nov.21, 2010

- Stewart Villilo will be taking improv training at the People's Improv Theater (The P.I.T.)



AUGUST 2010
- You can see Stewart Villilo on Celebrity Ghost Stories Season 2 airing August 14, 2010 at 9pm on The Biography Channel. 

- Stewart Villilo will join the ensemble cast of Lanford Wilson's 'Balm in Gilead' directed by Peter Jensen, which will run from October 14, 2010 -  November 21, 2010. The opening play of T. Schreiber Studios 2010-2011 season.  T. Schreiber Studios has won Backstage New York Reader's Choice Awards as best Off-Off Broadway Theater Company to See two years in a row (2009-2010)

- Auditioned for short film Down and Across.



JULY 2010

- Auditioned for Balm in Gilead part of T. Schreiber Studios 2010-2011 season.

- Auditioned for short film La Familia.
 


MAY 2010
- Finished shooting the short film Tainted Dream.  A NY Film Academy Short.

- Worked with Comedian/Actor/Radio Personality Victor Cruz on his short film.

- Started Amy Gossels on-camera commercial class.

- Started Karen Kolhass cold reading technique class.

- Auditioned for the short film "Siempre Fiel"


 APRIL 2010

- Awesome shoot on Celebrity Ghost Stories (Season 2).  Had a great time on this production.  I played Adrian, a bad guy who gets dragged to hell for his bad deeds.  Many thanks to Casting director Lesley Mallgrave and Director/Producer Seth Jarrett.
 
- Booked Celebrity Ghost Stories for the Biography Channel.

- Auditioned for the short film "El Spanish Lesson" a Columbia MFA film.

- Auditioned for a Staged reading of the play "Ghetto Babylon" for the Puerto Rican Traveling Theatre

- Auditioned for the short film "The Notebook", which is being directed by Martin Rosete

- Launch of StewartVillilo.com


MARCH 2010 
- Got included in the talent files of talent agent Wendy Curiel.

- Auditioned for Ghost Stories for the Biography Channel. 

- Auditioned for Dr. Pepper bilingual (Spanish/English) voice over.

- Performed in the Directing Actor's Gym at the National Comedy Theater.  Thanks to Miles Maker! For creating this event to bring NYC talent together. Directors, writers, editors, producers, and actors.

- Filmed a sketch comedy skit, for the Ay Que Funny Show.

- Got new headshots.


FEBRUARY 2010
 
- Worked on MTV 2010 Census PSA (see a clip on my multimedia page) Very fun shoot with very talented people. Thanks to Tom O' Hare (Tempest Casting) and director EJ Mcleavey-Fisher.

- Worked on Child Support Bilingual (Spanish/English) PSA for Lovett Productions. It was an awesome shoot with great professional people.  Many thanks to the director Joseph Lovett and the producer Hannah Rosenzweig.

- Met with Wendy Mckenzie CD from Wink of an Eye Casting.  I learned a lot of useful industry info.
 
- Met with Elizabeth Gans Commercial CD from Stark Naked Productions. Great advice and was even referred to a talent agent specializing in my type. Thanks Elizabeth!
 
- Met with Liz Ortiz-Mackes CD from Casting Solutions TV.  Learned a lot about the casting business from the other side of the fence.  Liz Ortiz-Mackes is very down to earth and has a lot of great insight.


JANUARY 2010
   
- Completed a 4wk commercial class with Commercial CD veteran Angela Mickey from Liz Lewis Casting. Angela is a great teacher and a great individual as well. Gave me so much great info and honest constructive feedback.  I am definitely more prepared approaching commercial auditions now.  Thanks Angela!!!! 

- Shot an experimental short film with director Key Soto.


DECEMBER 2009
 -
- Attended the NALIP (National Association of Latino Independent Producers) holiday party.  Great Networking, met lots of cool people.  Met fellow HOLA member and actor Mauricio Alexander and also met Jennifer Ajemian CD from Liz Lewis Casting.  It was a fun productive night.
